Notes:

  • By early 1977, Rush were nearly always headlining concerts, hardly ever opening for other bands or needing to play shortened setlists. Therefore this post is ONLY documenting headline setlists. However, there is one known recording from the A Farewell To Kings tour of Rush playing a non-headlining show, which was January 12, 1978. The recording is incomplete, so we don't know the exact setlist performed, however the first portion of the concert we know featured Bastille Day, By-Tor And The Snow Dog, Xanadu, A Farewell To Kings, and 2112. This likely completed the main set of the concert, but a newspaper review states an encore was performed, so we can speculate it was likely just the Working Man / Fly By Night / In The Mood / Drum Solo medley.
  • Unlike most of the tours that preceded it, the A Farewell To Kings tour is the first that we know nearly all setlist details about. The one fact that we can not be sure of is the exact range of dates Best I Can was played as the second encore, as it is only heard on the earliest known recording of the tour. All other known recordings feature Cinderella Man as the second encore. It's possible that August 23 was the final time Best I Can was performed, considering the first four gigs of the tour essentially served as a warm-up period, followed by a nearly two week break. It should also be noted that we can't be certain if a second encore was played during every headlining concert, as a good handful of recordings seem to be missing it.
