Rush Stems / Multi Tracks?

I have loads of Rush stems, most of them are from Rock Band and Guitar Hero dlc - I also have The Trees live promo synched to the bass and drums from the 'vault edition' - the vault edition tracks are actually from the live promo session xD

I have uploaded some here to one drive - not sure how long they will be there for, as I will need the space for something else in the near(ish) future. I have lots of Ai splits but I don't think they are good enough as stand-alone tracks/stems. They are quite good for adjusting mix levels on the thin sounding Rush tunes though 😁

A ton have been floating around over the years that have been from the "analog hole" method, rather than proper decryption from the source. Rock Band moggs are already compressed and lossy, so the closer you can get to the source the better (GH is even worse, iirc the ps3 version actually used mp3 compression...not that ogg vorbis is that much better, but still). Fortunately I do have unencrypted moggs ripped straight from my console, but I messaged By-Tor about because of the legality of it all and came to the conclusion of erring on the side of caution.

The 5.1 mixes on the drive, what's your process? Assuming they were created using demucs/ai splitting? It's an interesting take on the mixes. The rears seem to have a lot of low end information (or at least in GUP), any reason why you chose to do that instead of having it in the LFE?

Hello.
I know what you mean about the lossy sourced stuff, they are great for inquisitive fans, like myself, when I was just wondering what each instrument sounded like in isolation and I started making bass and drum mixes. Incidentally, I read an interview somewhere and Geddy said that he and Neil used to do bass and drum mixes of all their stuff. I think That's simultaneously so odd and amazingly brilliant, that stuff, especially on the 1974-80 songs, is so entertaining. You can't say that of many, if any, other bands!

Ok, regarding my 'process', (I just, basically, read a bunch of stuff online and watched a lot of videos about how to mix stuff together and gave it a go!) I used an online program to split the tracks, called 'Splitter AI'.
You have to pay £5 per month (I just paid once) and you can split the tracks in to 5 stereo stems. The results vary but seem to be better than the desktop version of 'Spleeter' I was using.

I usually make a 'Tweeked' stereo-pair mixdown of the album for the FL & FR and process some mono mixes of bass, vox and drums for the centre speaker (sometimes feed some mid bass presence in to the rears with the centre bass guitar mix). I also use a centre channel remover on the drums, vox, keys and guitar to make the rear soundscape (except for Caress - I chose to keep the drums in the front LCR). I also make a LFE track from the drum and bass (who says Rush aren't cool) tracks and I mix this in to all the channels (to answer another of your questions) so the mix will sound good on full range systems without the .1. I read that in an article by a producer/mixer that was talking about the need for industry standards in multichannel music. I also use a final mastering tool to make it pop! It sounds how I wanted it to sound on my system - may sound like garbage elsewhere xD

*Edit - Oh yes, I see what you are getting at with GUP - I did a few test mixes that were very saturated with the LFE and one of them got mixed up with the final mix (oops).

I am still looking for the non-fade out version of Vital Signs. If anyone would like to share, it would be appreciated.
I do have that backed up to a dvd somewhere, I grabbed it from Demonoid in the noughties. I will have a look for it this weekend coming and find a dvd-rom drive to get it on the PC. BTW the Vital Signs tracks have some weird extras that are not audible on the studio mix!

I thought the same about Vital Signs until I listened to the 40th anniversary vinyl. Its there just buried in the mix in digital form. I have an extremely revealing system and love listening to it

Thanks for doing this! I was listening to the vocals/keys (and pedals) for The Camera Eye and my kitchen cabinets shook when the pedals came in. It was great!
