Vapoo2112

Beginner
The Tama Rosewood Superstars were the 3rd drum set used by Peart, used to record Permanent Waves, Moving Pictures, and Exit... Stage Left, as well as being used on the Semi Tour of Some of the Hemispheres (Summer '79 Tour), Permanent Waves Tour, Moving Pictures Tour, and the Exit... Stage Left tour.*** (Possibly used at the very beginning of the on the Deep South Spring Training Tour, not confirmed.)

Gong was replaced with a smaller sized Paiste gong, brass plated hardware, (Cymbal stands, lugs, rims, tom mounts/stands, and possibly tension rods,) and first custom finished drum kit. The Rosewood color was achieved by the Percussion Center using magic marker inks of reds, blues, and blacks to achieve a richness similar to the antique chinese rosewood furniture that Neil had at the time. The final color is Mahogany based.

After Rush
-------------
The Rosewood Tamas were given away in the first Modern Drummer giveaway in 1982, in which contestants were to write an essay of 100 or less words called, “Why I Would Like to Win Neil Peart’s Drums.” Adam Roderick won the drum kit.

It is believed that he still owns the drums today, and has allowed his friend who plays in a Rush tribute band to occasionally use the rosewood tamas. (Imagine that!)

Also attached is an image of Adam behind the CAR Tamas.

A video slideshow has been uploaded with permission from the current owner onto youtube. These are the latest photos of the kit, being 3 years old at the time of writing.

Finally a site that has been able to confirm for me that the gong is made by Paiste. I thought that those were their hammering techniques. Now can anyone tell me what size it was.

This picture helped to confirm it was Paiste

As for the size, I'd bet 28"

Great stuff!

Neil continued using Blue Evans Hydraulic heads for the bottoms of the toms, but switched to clear Remos (either Diplomats or Ambassadors) for the Exit Stage Left tour.

I don't think Neil used this kit past the Exit Stage Left tour. There is a photo from the Spring Training tour that shows Neil on his CAR kit, with the Slingerland snare still with the Copper wrap, and the crotales still mounted on top of the tubular chimes:

I've come across this one, it definitely throws me off to see the CAR tamas with the crotales above the tubular bells and the old mounting system for the percussion. Seeing the increased activity in these threads has made me want to continue them after a year LOL

Well on my Rush replica set I don't strictly stick to what Mr Peart had, so I think I'm going to go with a 40 inch. And on the black chromie set my mounted Tom's are 13, 14 and 15. I also have 16 and 18 inch floor toms. My 13 and 14 inch toms I converted from concert Toms. The trim ring screw holes are covered by the head/hoop. I have one 24 inch bass drum that has a really messed up wrap that I'm going to have to manufacture a black chrome wrap for. The sheet metal won't be expensive but that much black chrome will be. I also have a 16 inch floor tom that needs a black chrome wrap made. The steel wraps I had to make for my original chromie set I used stainless steel on. While stainless steel is kind of expensive it's not as expensive as Chrome plating. Also stainless steel will never rust, and it's very scratch, gouge, and ding resistant. I was lucky enough to find a bunch of concert Toms that needed wraps. So like Mr Peart's concert toms, I wraped mine in Copper. Before I started all this I looked around for a shop that could wrap my shells with metal, but no luck. And I thought okay since I've been a machinist all my life and I can handle this. After one concert Tom I'm comfortable with it, and have a procedure worked out. I'm actually enjoying it now, but I'm still a little nervous about doing a 24 inch bass drum. I'm looking to purchase a 24-in bass drum in black chrome, because I think the price would be pretty close to making one. Also piece of sheet metal that large can be dangerous. I know I had 14 Staples in my head. A big piece like that is like a huge spring with razor edges. If anyone is tempted to try this don't forget the safety glasses (actually a full face shield would be better) and leather gloves and a jacket heavy enough to protect you. Also a towel tied around your neck could keep you from getting your throat slashed. Like I said it's a large spring with razor edges. I really like this Rush forum. It's not like other places where if your opinion differs you get a bunch of garbage thrown your way. That Nashville Tennessee show that you listed, I was there. What a great show, but they all were were'nt they.

I appreciate the complement! I try to keep things constructive and open minded here, especially when it comes to historical research. Lots places sadly just like to immediately disregard and ignore what doesn't suit their current beliefs.
