The Black Slingerlands are the second drum set Neil Peart used in Rush, using it to record A Farewell to Kings and Hemispheres, and used near the end of the All the World's a Stage Tour, the Farewell to Kings Tour, and the Tour of the Hemispheres.

Hemispheres
-------------------
What’s New?
Gong, New Temple Blocks, Triangles, Windchimes, Tympani, and Crotales. New mounting system/rack, which would remain until 1982. Added 20” China and 18” Wuhan Chinese.
All drum sizes, drum heads, cymbal sizes, and most hardware remains.
Crotale tuned to a high E mounted on Stage Left bass drum, to the right of Hi-Hat.***
(***NOTE; there is no 100% consensus as to what exact note the crotale is due to overtones and the way they were captured on record.)
The Hemispheres album and tour sees the introduction of Tama hardware, likely taking the place of Slingerland hardware, as according to Neil, Slingerland’s hardware was “antiquated and fragile.” (Drum! Magazine, “Mean Mean Stride: The Drums of Neil Peart”)
Summer 79 Tour
----------------------------
Used for a number of shows on the Summer ‘79 Tour, before being replaced by the Rosewood Tama Drums. For the tour, Neil used plain black heads, presumably Remo, in place of the Starman heads used during the Farewell to Kings tour and Tour of the Hemispheres. It is thought that the original black and red star men heads were damaged in transporting the kit, but there is no confirmed reason for the change.
What’s New?
10” or similar sized Gong added to the rack above the 15” Rack tom, next to windchimes and wood blocks.
After Rush
The black slingerlands were initially used as an at-home practice kit by Neil before being put into storage. They were given away in 1987 through Modern Drummer magazine, being the “2nd First Place” Prize, won by Wayne Killius. Interestingly, the kit was sent to the contest winner bearing the Grace Under Pressure drumheads.
The original contest winner held onto the kit until roughly 2019, when it was sold to the current owner, who prefers to stay anonymous. The latest picture of the Black Slingerlands was taken in January of 2020, around the time that it was announced that Neil Peart had passed.
