Neil Peart Drum Sets 1 - Chromey

Vapoo2112

New member
Chromey is the Chrome Slingerland drum set that Neil had purchased from Long & McQuade in Toronto in Early August 1974. It was used for the Rush, Fly by Night, Caress of Steel, 2112, and most of the All The World's a Stage tours. It was used to record the following albums except for Rush, which was recorded with John Rutsey. (Likely on a Gretsch drum set.)

The first bass drum heads for Chromey were Evans Heavy Duty Rock Chrome, originally blank before having the Original Rush logo added between August and October of 1974.
These were replaced in mid-December 1975 by 2 clear (possibly Remo Ambassadors, not 100% sure) heads with a silver Caress of Steel "Rush" logo, along with "Neil" and "Peart" being added under the logo in silver blocks on the Left and Right bass drums respectively.

Bonhams : NEIL PEART'S CHROME SLINGERLAND DRUM KIT USED WITH RUSH FROM 1974-1977.

These heads were taken off for the recording of All The World's a Stage, recorded at Massey Hall in Toronto from June 11th to June 13th of 1976. When they were put back on for the June 15th show at Chatham, Ontario, the interiors of the heads were spray painted blue.

The last known show using Chromey was May 2nd, 1977 in Yankton, South Dakota (According to Wandering the Face of the Earth.)

After Rush
----------------
After acquiring the Black Chrome Slingerlands, Chromey goes into storage.

In June 1987, the kit is the “3rd First Place” prize in a Modern Drummer Magazine giveaway, in which people sent in a 3 minute drum solo on cassette.

The initial winner of the drum set is Mark Feldman. Between 1987 and 2009, Chromey makes its way to Main Drag Music, a music store in Brooklyn, NY.

Chromey is then sold on Ebay in auction, with Dean Bobisud winning the auction at $25,100. Bobisud restores the kit to playing condition using period accurate hardware with the help of Michael D.F. Lowe and Paul Wells.

From 2009 - 2020 Chromey goes on tour, allowing fans to see and play the drum kit. The kit was occasionally used at charity events to help raise money for the American Cancer Society.

In 2020, Bobisud auctioned off the drum set through Bonhams Auctions, where it was bought by an anonymous bidder for $500,312.50 USD.

In 2024, it was made public that Dallin Anderson bought the kit, and it now sits in his house.
