Photos from Scott Feeney
Note, Scott Feeney was a photographer that often travelled around with Max Webster, photographing that band on many occasions between 1976 to 1978. It has been said he didn't keep good record of the dates/locations when he took photos, but most have been figured out by dedicated Max Webster archivists. Since Max Webster opened for Rush a lot, Scott photographed this Rush soundcheck on an unspecified date. The story how the Rush photos started circulating as falsely circulating as "Washington, D.C." isn't exactly clear, but Scott was apparently with Max Webster at that show as well as the following night in Allentown opening for Rush. Scott was also with Max Webster at the shows opening for Rush in London on March 20, and Kitchener on March 23.
For a long time it has been clear that these photos could not be from April due to Neil's kit clearly being his old chrome Slingerland, with the Caress Of Steel font logo on the bass drum heads. He retired this kit after the string of Ontario shows in late March. Following a two week break from the tour, Rush hit the road again in April, during which Neil first started using his new black Slingerland kit. All known photos from April 1977 show the new black kit, with plain black drumheads, before the starman logo was added seemingly by April 30. Additionally, from what I have been told the Max Webster photos that went with this set Rush photos were also clearly not from April and had to have been earlier. Additionally, legitimate photos of the Washington, D.C show can be found here.
I do hope these facts can all finally start catching on and the Internet will start acknowledging the proper history.
